The sound from the connected source is
distorted.
If “TV” appears in the display when you press TV/
SAT on the unit, switch the display to “SAT” (see
“Listening to audio from a connected component”
on page 70).
“CANNOT LOCK” appears in the display.
•Press ?/1 to turn off the system and press again
to turn on. Then follow the same procedures in
“When carrying this system” (page 12). If
“CANNOT LOCK” still appears in the display,
contact your Sony dealer or local authorized Sony
service facility.
Speakers
Sound comes from one channel or
unbalanced left and right volume.
Check the speaker connection and speaker
placement.
The source being played back is monaural.
The sound comes from the center speaker
only. (MHC-GNZ9D/GNZ8D only)
Depending on the disc, the sound may come from
the center speaker only.
There is no sound from the subwoofer.
(MHC-GNZ9D only)
Make sure that the SUBWOOFER setting is set to
“YES” (page 43).
No sound is produced from the subwoofer when
you play a DVD that does not have subwoofer
output recorded.
There is no sound from the center speaker.
(MHC-GNZ9D/GNZ8D only)
Set the center speaker level to the appropriate
level.
There is no sound from the surround
speakers. (MHC-GNZ9D/GNZ8D only)
Set the surround speakers level to the appropriate
level.
The software being played back has limited sound
effects. Check the volume with the test tone.
Sound lacks bass.
Check that the speaker’s + and – jacks are
connected correctly.
DVD/VIDEO CD/CD/MP3/JPEG/
DivX player
The disc tray does not open and “LOCKED”
appears.
Contact your Sony dealer or local authorized Sony
service facility.
The disc tray does not close.
Place the disc correctly.
Always close the tray by pressing Z OPEN/
CLOSE on the unit. Trying to press the tray closed
with your fingers may cause problems with the
player.
Play does not start.
Open the disc tray and check whether a disc is
loaded.
Wipe the disc clean (page 80).
Replace the disc.
Place the disc that this system can play (page 5).
Place the disc correctly.
Place the disc in the tray with the label side up.
Remove the disc and wipe away the moisture on
the disc, then leave the system turned on for a few
hours until the moisture evaporates.
Press H (or nN on the unit) to start play.
The region code on the DVD does not match the
system.
Cancel the Custom Parental Control function
(page 45).
The sound skips.
Wipe the disc clean (page 80).
Replace the disc.
Try moving the system to a place without
vibration (e.g., on top of a stable stand).
Try moving the speakers away from the system, or
placing them on separate stands. When you listen
to a track with bass sounds at high volume, the
speaker vibration may cause the sound to skip.
Play does not start from the first track.
Shuffle Play (page 21), Program Play (page 20),
or Repeat Play (page 22) is selected.
Resume Play has been selected. Press x in stop
mode, then start playback (page 19).
The title, DVD or PBC menu automatically
appears on the TV screen.
Playback starts automatically.
The DVD features an auto playback function.
