Phase Detection AF
Enhances autofocus speed by the Phase
Detection AF function.
Auto
Selects whether or not to use the Phase
Detection AF.
Off
Does not use the Phase Detection AF.
Notes
You can use the Phase Detection AF only when
an A-mount lens (sold separately) is attached to
the camera using the mount adaptor (supplied).
This function may not be available depending
on the lens you use.
You can use this function only when shooting
photos, or 24p (NEX-VG900)/25p (NEX-
VG900E) movies.
Face Detection
You can set the camcorder to detect a
face automatically. Furthermore, you can
select which faces (children or adults) the
camcorder detects with priority.
It adjusts the focus/color/exposure
automatically for the face of the selected
subject.
Auto
Detects faces without distinction between
adults and children.
Child Priority ( )
Gives faces of children priority.
Adult Priority ( )
Gives faces of adults priority.
Off ( )
Does not detect faces.
Notes
Faces may not be detected depending on
recording conditions, subject conditions, and
the setting of your camcorder.
[Face Detection] may not function properly
depending on recording conditions. Set [Face
Detection] to [Off] in this case.
Tips
For better face detection performance, shoot the
subject(s) under the following conditions:
Shoot in a sufficiently bright place
The subject(s) does not wear glasses, a hat
or mask
The subject(s) faces directly towards the
camera
If you select a subject which has priority by
touching the frame that has appeared around
the subject’s face, a double-lined frame will
appear and that face has priority.
Flash
You can select the flash setting when
shooting photos with a compatible external
flash (sold separately).
Auto
Flashes automatically when the camcorder
judges the lack of light warrants a flash.

Flashes for every shot, regardless of ambient
light.
Slow Sync. ( )
Flashes for every shot. This setting makes
not only the subject brighter, but also the
background.
Rear Sync. ( )
Flashes just before the exposure ends. Trails of
moving objects follow their natural direction
of movement.
Off ( )
Does not flash
Flash Level
You can select the flash level when shooting
photos with a compatible external flash
(sold separately).
You can set a flash value from -3.0EV to
+3.0EV on your camcorder. The set value
may not be effective depending on the
connected flash (sold separately).
