General information
About the battery as a
backup power source
This unit contains a CR2032 battery as a backup
power source to keep the clock and the alarm
operating during a power interruption. (No
Power No Problem system)
When to replace the
battery
When the battery is discharged, appears
on the display.
If a power interruption occurs while the battery
is discharged, the current time and alarm will
be erased.
Replacing the backup
battery
1 Keep the AC plug connected to the
wall outlet, then open the battery
compartment on the bottom of the
unit.
Fully loosen
the screw.
Push the tab
and pull up
the lid.
2 Remove the old battery by sliding it
out and picking it up.
3 Insert a new battery into the battery
compartment with the side facing
up.

4 Replace the battery compartment lid
and tighten the screw.
5 Press AM/FM/NATURE SOUND to
remove “
from the display.
Notes

When you replace the battery, do not
disconnect the AC plug from the wall outlet.
Otherwise, the current date and time, alarm,
and station presets will be erased.

If the clock is erased while you are replacing
the battery, set the clock again. (See “Setting
the clock”)

If the unit will be left unplugged for a long
time, remove the battery to avoid any
damage that may be caused by leakage or
corrosion.
Troubleshooting
Should any problems persist after you have
made the following checks, consult your
nearest Sony dealer.
The clock flashes “0:00” or AM 12:00”
after a power interruption.

The battery is discharged. Remove the old
battery and insert a new one.
Unsatisfactory reception

Extend the FM wire antenna fully to increase
reception sensitivity.

Connect the supplied AM loop antenna to
the unit. Rotate the antenna horizontally for
optimum reception.

Do not place the AM loop antenna near the
unit or other AV equipment, as noise may
result.

Keep digital music players or mobile phones
away from the AM loop antenna or the FM
antenna, as this may lead to reception
interference.
The alarm does not sound at the preset
alarm time.

Check that A or “B” appears on the display.
The radio or Nature Sound alarm is
activated but no sound is emitted at
the preset alarm time.

Check the alarm volume setting.
Before operating the unit, please read this
guide thoroughly and retain it for future
reference.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire, do not cover the
ventilation of the apparatus with newspapers,
tablecloths, curtains, etc. And do not place
lighted candles on the apparatus.
To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do
not expose this apparatus to dripping or
splashing, and do not place objects filled with
liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.
Do not install the appliance in a confined
space, such as a bookcase or built-in cabinet.
Do not expose batteries or apparatus with
battery-installed to excessive heat such as
sunshine, fire or the like.
As the main plug is used to disconnect the unit
from the mains, connect the unit to an easily
accessible AC outlet. Should you notice an
abnormality in the unit, disconnect the main
plug from the AC outlet immediately.
The unit is not disconnected from the AC
power source (mains) as long as it is connected
to the wall outlet, even if the unit itself has
been turned off.
The nameplate and important information
concerning safety are located on the bottom
exterior.
CAUTION
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly
replaced. Replace only with the same type.
WARNING

Battery may explode if handled incorrectly.
Do not recharge, disassemble or dispose of
in fire.

Dispose of used battery promptly and in
accordance with local environmental laws
and guidelines. Keep away from children.

Precautions

Operate the unit on the power sources
specified in “Specifications.

To disconnect the power cord (mains lead),
pull it out by the plug, not the cord.

Do not leave the unit in a location near a
heat source, such as a radiator or airduct, or
in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive
dust, mechanical vibration, or shock.

Allow adequate air circulation to prevent
internal heat build-up. Do not place the unit
on a surface (a rug, blanket, etc.) or near
materials (a curtain) that might block the
ventilation holes.

Should any solid object or liquid fall into the
unit, unplug the unit and have it checked by
a qualified personnel before operating it any
further.

To clean the casing, use a soft dry cloth. Do
not use any type of solvent, such as alcohol
or benzine, which may damage the finish.
NOTES ON LITHIUM BATTERY

Dispose of used battery promptly. Keep the
lithium battery out of the reach of children.
Should the battery be swallowed,
immediately consult a doctor.

Wipe the battery with a dry cloth to assure a
good contact.

Be sure to observe the correct polarity when
installing the battery.

Do not hold the battery with metallic
tweezers, otherwise a short-circuit may
occur.

Do not expose the battery to excessive heat
such as direct sunlight, fire or the like.
If you have any questions or problems
concerning your unit, please consult your
nearest Sony dealer.

Getting Started
Removing the
insulation film
When using the unit for the first time after
purchase, remove the insulation film from the
battery compartment on the bottom of the
unit.
Connecting the AM
loop antenna
The shape and the length of the antenna is
designed to receive AM signals. Do not
dismantle or roll up the antenna.
1 Raise the plastic stand and fit the
antenna into the slot of the stand.

2 Insert the AM antenna connector into
the AM ANTENNA jack on the unit.
To remove the AM loop
antenna
Push and hold down the tab of the antenna
terminal clamp, and remove the AM loop
antenna.
Connecting to an AC
power source
Connect the AC power cord to a wall outlet.
To wall outlet
Setting the clock
1 Press and hold SET TIME/DATE for
more than 2 seconds.
The year will start to flash on the display.
2 Press VOL/SET + or repeatedly to
select the year, and then press
SNOOZE/BRIGHTNESS/ENTER.
3 Repeat step 2 to set the month, day
and time.
After setting the time, a beep will sound.
Notes
If you do not press any button for about 1
minute while setting the clock, clock setting
mode will be canceled.
A 100-year calendar (2013 - 2112) is installed
in the system.
To change the time format
You can choose between the 12-hour system
(default) or the 24-hour system to display the
time.
Press and hold ALARM RESET/OFF and
SNOOZE/BRIGHTNESS/ENTER for about
3 seconds.
The time format toggles between the 12-hour
system (“AM 12:00” = midnight) and the
24-hour system (“0:00” = midnight).
To display the date and year
Press SET TIME/DATE once to display the day
and month, and press again to display the year.
To return to the current time display, press SET
TIME/DATE once again; or after a few seconds
the clock display will return automatically.
To change the display to
indicate daylight saving time
(summer time)
Change the daylight saving time (summer
time) adjustment setting according to the
following procedure.
Press and hold DST for more than 2
seconds.
“DST” appears on the display and the clock
display switches to daylight saving time
(summer time).
To deactivate the daylight saving time (summer
time) adjustment, press and hold DST for more
than 2 seconds again.
Note
After activating the daylight saving time
(summer time) adjustment using DST, the
clock is set one hour ahead. If you live in a
region where the time difference between
the daylight saving time (summer time) and
the standard time is not one hour, change
the clock setting manually to the daylight
saving time (summer time).
