Using Standby mode
If you plan to stop using your computer for a short period of time (not overnight), you can put it into
Standby mode instead of turning it off completely. Putting the computer into Standby mode saves energy
and allows a quick return to normal computer use.
To activate Standby mode manually, save your work and use one of these two methods:
Use the Standby button:
Press the Standby button at the top of the keyboard.
The computer goes into Standby mode, indicated by the amber light under the power button.
Use the Windows taskbar:
From the Start menu, select Turn Off Computer then Stand By.
Alternatively, press <Alt>+<F4> to get to the same dialog box.
The computer goes into Standby mode, indicated by the amber light under the power button.
To return to Normal mode, choose from the following:
Press any key on the keyboard.
Press the Standby button again.
You can leave Windows running when using Standby.
When the computer is in Standby mode, you cannot insert a disc.
The computer comes out of Standby mode quicker than out of Hibernate mode and uses more power.
