Disposal of waste batteries and electrical and

electronic equipment (applicable in the European

Union and other European countries with separate

collection systems)

This symbol on the product, the battery or on the

packaging indicates that the product and the battery shall not be

treated as household waste. On certain batteries this symbol

might be used in combination with a chemical symbol. The

chemical symbols for mercury (Hg) or lead (Pb) are added if the

battery contains more than 0.0005% mercury or 0.004% lead. By

ensuring these products and batteries are disposed of correctly,

you will help prevent potentially negative consequences for the

environment and human health which could otherwise be

caused by inappropriate waste handling. The recycling of the

materials will help to conserve natural resources.

In case of products that for safety, performance or data integrity

reasons require a permanent connection with an incorporated

battery, this battery should be replaced by qualified service staff

only. To ensure that the battery and the electrical and electronic

equipment will be treated properly, hand over these products at

end-of-life to the applicable collection point for the recycling of

electrical and electronic equipment. For all other batteries,

please view the section on how to remove the battery from the

product safely. Hand the battery over to the applicable collection

point for the recycling of waste batteries. For more detailed

information about recycling of this product or battery, please

contact your local Civic Office, your household waste disposal

service or the shop where you purchased the product or battery.

Troubleshooting

If you run into any problems using this unit, use the following

checklist and read the product support information on our

website. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony

dealer.

The unit may become warm during use. This is not a

malfunction.

No sound

 This unit is digital input exclusive. Analog input is not

supported.

 Check that the unit and the audio device are connected

correctly.

 Check that the connected device is turned on.

 Check that the unit is turned on.

 If the POWER/CHG (charge) indicator does not light up,

charge the battery.

 Turn up the volume of the connected device.

 Turn up the volume of the unit.

 Connect the headphone plug firmly to the unit.

 Check that the connected headphones have a 3-pole stereo

mini plug.

The unit supports only a 3-pole stereo mini plug. Do not

connect other plugs. It may cause a malfunction.

When connected to a computer, there is no sound or the

sound is not played back properly.

 The computer does not recognize the unit as a USB device.

Restart your computer.

Install the driver software for Windows “Sony USB Device

Driver” on your Windows computer. Visit the following

website, and install the software.

 Turn up the volume of your computer or software.

 If the unit was connected to the computer while using audio

playback software, restart the audio playback software.

 When playing High-Resolution Audio format data on your

computer with the unit, use the audio playback software,

“Hi-Res Audio Player,” compatible with the High-Resolution

Audio format data.

When “Hi-Res Audio Player” is not installed, install it on your

computer. Visit the following website, and install the

software.

 If the computer enters standby, sleep or hibernation mode,

while the music is played back by using the audio playback

software, restart the audio playback software.

 Check that the sound device settings of your computer are

correct.

 For Windows 8/8.1

Press and hold the [Windows] and [X] keys to display the

menu, select [Control Panel], [Hardware and Sound],

[Sound], [Playback] tab, select [Sony Headphone

Amplifier(PHA-1A)] for the playback device, then click [Set

default].

 For Windows 7/Windows Vista

Click the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], [Hardware and

Sound], [Sound], [Playback] tab, select [Sony Headphone

Amplifier(PHA-1A)] for the playback device, then click

[Set default].

 For Macintosh

Click the [Apple] menu, select [System Preferences],

[Sound], [Output] tab, then select [Sony Headphone

Amplifier(PHA-1A)] for [Select a device for sound output].

 The volume control of your computer or the audio playback

software is set to suppress the sound. Cancel the setting.

 The CD-ROM drive does not support the digital reproduction

function. Use a CD-ROM drive that supports the digital

reproduction function.

 Digitally broadcast sound may not be output from a

computer’s USB port.

The driver software for Windows cannot be installed onto a

Windows computer.

 The unit needs to be connected to your Windows computer

at a certain point while installing the driver software.

In this case, connect the Windows computer to the

computer/WALKMAN®/Xperia connection INPUT port of the

unit using the micro-USB cable (supplied).

For details concerning connection, refer to the illustration of

“Computer” in step 2 of the Startup Guide.

Low sound

 Turn up the volume of the connected device.

 Turn up the volume of the unit.

 When using high-impedance headphones, set the GAIN

select switch to HIGH.

 Use headphones that have a stereo mini plug. The unit only

supports headphones that have a stereo mini plug. If you use

headphones/headset with a remote control or microphone,

there may be low sound or no sound.

The unit does not turn on.

 Charge the battery of the unit.

 When battery life reduces to half, the battery is approaching

the end of its service life. Consult your nearest Sony dealer

for replacement.

Even though the power tab is in the on position, the POWER/

CHG (charge) indicator lights up in red.

 When the unit is used over a long time and the remaining

battery power becomes low, if you connect the DC IN 5V port

of the unit to a computer or other device, the POWER/CHG

(charge) indicator lights up in red. The unit cannot be turned

on. In this case, turn off the power of the unit and turn on it

again. The POWER/CHG (charge) indicator lights up in green

and the unit turns on.

The battery cannot be charged.

 Check that the unit and your computer are firmly connected

using the micro-USB cable (supplied).

 Check that the computer is turned on and not in standby,

sleep or hibernation mode.

 Check that the unit and the computer are directly connected,

not via a USB hub.

 Try the USB connection procedure again in cases other than

those stated above.

 The USB port of the connected computer may have a

problem. Connect the unit to another USB port of the

computer if available.

 A USB AC adaptor that is not recommended is being used.

 The battery is fully charged.

If the battery is fully charged, the POWER/CHG (charge)

indicator may blink and go off, and charging may not start.

This is not a malfunction.

 If the unit is not used for a long time, the POWER/CHG

(charge) indicator may take a while to light up red when you

connect it to your computer. In this case, do not disconnect

the micro-USB cable from the unit, and wait until the POWER/

CHG (charge) indicator lights up red.

Charging time is too long.

 Check that the unit and the computer are directly connected,

not via a USB hub.

 A cable which is not supplied is used.

 A USB AC adaptor that is not recommended is being used.

Noise is generated.

 Keep the computer away from the unit.

 Restart the audio playback software.

 Turn off the connected audio device, then turn it on again.

Sound is interrupted when connecting to the computer.

 The CPU of your computer is overloaded. Close other

applications.

 Other USB devices are connected to your computer and

being used simultaneously. Quit operating other USB devices.

The remote control of the headset does not work.

 Remote control operation is not supported by this unit.

The microphone of the headset does not work.

 Headset microphones are not supported by this unit.

This unit is compatible only with the audio playback functions

iPhones/iPads/iPods.

Depending on the Apple product, there may be significant

electric power required when starting the communication

connected with the unit. The battery power of the unit may be

drained and the unit may turn off if you connect the Apple

product to the unit when the battery power is low. In this case,

charge the unit or use the USB AC adaptor to connect with the

Apple product.

Compatible WALKMAN® models

The unit only supports audio function of a WALKMAN® which

supports High-Resolution Audio.

Precautions

On Safety

ˎ

When you carry the unit and the audio device connected with the

connecting cable, make sure not to apply the external force as it may cause

a malfunction.

ˎ

Do not put weight or pressure on this unit as it may cause the unit to

deform during long storage.

ˎ

Do not drop the unit or subject it to external shock, as it may cause a

malfunction.

ˎ

Clean the unit with a soft dry cloth.

ˎ

If there is noise while listening to the radio, etc., move the unit farther away

from the connected device.

ˎ

Do not expose the unit to water. The unit is not waterproof.

Remember to follow the precautions below.

ˋBe careful not to drop the unit into a sink or other container filled with

water.

ˋDo not use the unit in humid locations or bad weather, such as in the rain

or snow.

ˋDo not get the unit wet.

If you touch the unit with wet hands, or put the unit in a damp article of

clothing, the unit may get wet and this may cause a malfunction of the

unit.

When inserting and removing the unit from a bag or other object, the

volume tab may be caught and the position of the volume tab may be

changed causing a loud sound to be output. Be careful when inserting and

removing the unit from a bag or other object.

On placement

ˎ

Do not place the unit in a location where it is:

ˋSubject to extreme high temperature (such as in a car with its windows

closed).

ˋSubject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.

ˋSubject to mechanical vibration or shock.

ˋSubject to a magnetic field.

(such as near a magnet, speaker or TV).

ˋSubject to excessive dust.

Note on static electricity

When using the headphones in particularly dry air conditions, mild tingling

may be felt on your ears. This is a result of static electricity accumulated in the

body, and not a malfunction of the headphones.

The effect can be minimized by wearing clothes made from natural materials.

On charging

ˎ

This unit uses USB charging exclusively. To charge the unit, it is necessary to

use a computer which has a USB port, or the USB AC adaptor AC-UD10 (sold

separately).

ˎ

You can use the unit while it is connected to the computer or AC power

source. In this case, depending on the usage environment, it may take time

to charge or charging may not be available.

ˎ

When the unit is stored for a long period, to prevent excessive discharge,

charge the unit every six months or so.

ˎ

When the battery life is reduced to an extremely short period, the battery is

approaching the end of its service life. Consult your nearest Sony dealer for

replacement.

Dépannage

Si vous rencontrez des problèmes d’utilisation de cet appareil,

L’appareil peut chauffer pendant l’utilisation. Il ne s’agit pas d’un

dysfonctionnement.

Absence de son

 Cet appareil accepte exclusivement une entrée numérique.

Les entrées analogiques ne sont pas prises en charge.

 Vérifiez si l’appareil et le périphérique audio sont

correctement connectés.

 Vérifiez si le périphérique connecté est sous tension.

 Vérifiez si l’appareil est sous tension.

 Si le témoin POWER/CHG (charge) ne s’éclaire pas, chargez la

batterie.

 Augmentez le volume du périphérique connecté.

 Augmentez le volume de l’appareil.

 Raccordez convenablement la fiche du casque à l’appareil.

 Assurez-vous que le casque connecté possède une mini-fiche

stéréo à 3 pôles.

L’appareil prend seulement en charge une mini-fiche stéréo à

3 pôles. Ne connectez aucune autre fiche. Cela pourrait

provoquer une défaillance.

En cas de connexion à un ordinateur, absence de son ou

mauvaise reproduction du son.

 L’ordinateur ne reconnaît pas l’appareil en tant que

périphérique USB. Redémarrez votre ordinateur.

Installez le pilote «Sony USB Device Driver» Windows sur

votre ordinateur Windows. Visitez le site Web suivant et

installez le logiciel.

 Augmentez le volume de votre ordinateur ou de votre

logiciel.

 Si l’appareil a été connecté à l’ordinateur pendant l’utilisation

d’un logiciel de lecture audio, redémarrez ce dernier.

 Si vous utilisez cet appareil lorsque vous lisez des données au

format Audio haute résolution sur votre ordinateur, employez

le logiciel de lecture audio « Hi-Res Audio Player » compatible

avec les données au format Audio haute résolution.

Si «Hi-Res Audio Player» n’est pas présent sur votre

ordinateur, installez-le. Visitez le site Web suivant et installez

le logiciel.

 Si l’ordinateur passe en mode de veille ou de veille prolongée

pendant la lecture de la musique à l’aide du logiciel de

lecture audio, redémarrez ce dernier.

 Vérifiez si les paramètres du périphérique audio de votre

ordinateur sont corrects.

 Pour Windows 8/8.1

Appuyez sur les touches [Windows] et [X] et maintenez-les

enfoncées pour afficher le menu, sélectionnez [Control

Panel], [Hardware and Sound], [Sound], onglet [Playback],

sélectionnez [Sony Headphone Amplifier(PHA-1A)] comme

périphérique de lecture, puis cliquez sur [Set default].

 Pour Windows 7/Windows Vista

Cliquez sur le menu [Start], sélectionnez [Control Panel],

 Il est possible que le port USB de votre ordinateur ne

reproduise pas le son des émissions numériques.

Le pilote pour Windows ne peut pas être installé sur un

ordinateur Windows.

 L’appareil doit être connecté à un point particulier de votre

ordinateur Windows pendant l’installation du pilote.

Dans ce cas, connectez l’ordinateur Windows au port INPUT

de connexion de l’ordinateur/WALKMAN®/Xperia de

l’appareil à l’aide du câble micro-USB (fourni).

Pour plus d’informations sur la connexion, reportez-vous à

l’illustration « Ordinateur » à l’étape 2 du Guide de démarrage.

Son faible

 Augmentez le volume du périphérique connecté.

 Augmentez le volume de l’appareil.

 Si vous utilisez un casque à haute impédance, réglez le

sélecteur GAIN sur HIGH.

 Utilisez un casque équipé d’une mini-fiche stéréo. L’appareil

prend seulement en charge les casques qui possèdent une

mini-fiche stéréo. Si vous utilisez un casque/des écouteurs

équipés d’une télécommande ou d’un micro, le son peut être

faible ou totalement inexistant.

L’appareil ne se met pas sous tension.

 Chargez la batterie de l’appareil.

 La vie utile de la batterie arrive à son terme lorsque son

autonomie ne dépasse plus 50%. Consultez votre revendeur

Sony le plus proche pour remplacer votre batterie.

Même si la commande d’alimentation est en position de

marche, le témoin POWER/CHG (charge) brille en rouge.

 Lorsque l’appareil est utilisé pendant une période prolongée

et que la charge de la batterie faiblit, le témoin POWER/CHG

(charge) s’allume en rouge si vous connectez le port DC IN 5V

de l’appareil à un ordinateur ou à un autre périphérique. Il

n’est pas possible de mettre l’appareil sous tension. Dans ce

cas, mettez l’appareil hors tension, puis remettez-le sous

tension. Le témoin POWER/CHG (charge) s’allume en vert et

l’appareil se met sous tension.

Impossible de charger la batterie.

 Vérifiez si l’appareil et votre ordinateur sont correctement

raccordés à l’aide du câble micro-USB (fourni).

 Vérifiez si l’ordinateur est sous tension et s’il n’est pas en

mode veille ou veille prolongée.

 Vérifiez si l’appareil et l’ordinateur sont raccordés directement

et non par l’intermédiaire d’un concentrateur USB.

 Essayez de nouveau la procédure de connexion USB dans les

autres cas que ceux repris ci-dessus.

 Le port USB de l’ordinateur connecté présente peut-être un

problème. Connectez l’appareil à un autre port USB de

l’ordinateur, le cas échéant.

 Vous utilisez un adaptateur secteur USB qui n’est pas

recommandé.

 La batterie est complètement chargée.

 Si la batterie est complètement chargée, le témoin POWER/

CHG (charge) peut clignoter et s’éteindre sans que la charge

démarre. Il ne s’agit pas d’une défaillance.

 Si l’appareil n’est pas utilisé pendant une période prolongée,

un certain temps peut s’écouler avant que le témoin POWER/

CHG (charge) s’allume en rouge quand vous connectez

l’appareil à votre ordinateur. Dans ce cas, ne déconnectez pas

le câble micro-USB de l’appareil et attendez que le témoin

POWER/CHG (charge) s’allume en rouge.

Le temps de charge est trop long.

 Vérifiez si l’appareil et l’ordinateur sont raccordés directement

et non par l’intermédiaire d’un concentrateur USB.

 Vous utilisez un câble non fourni.

 Vous utilisez un adaptateur secteur USB qui n’est pas

recommandé.

Présence de bruit.

 Éloignez l’ordinateur de l’appareil.

 Redémarrez le logiciel de lecture audio.

 Mettez hors tension le périphérique audio, puis remettez-le

sous tension.

La connexion à l’ordinateur interrompt le son.

 Le CPU de votre ordinateur est surchargé. Fermez d’autres

applications.

 D’autres périphériques USB sont connectés à votre ordinateur

et sont utilisés simultanément. Cessez d’utiliser d’autres

périphériques USB.

La télécommande du casque ne fonctionne pas.

 L’utilisation d’une télécommande n’est pas prise en charge

par cet appareil.

Le micro du casque ne fonctionne pas.

 Les micros de casque ne sont pas pris en charge par cet

appareil.
